Grocery Shopping & Meal Planning

I am continuing to have hunger between meals, and I am running out of healthy snacks around the house. I suppose this means it’s time to go to the grocery store again. My philosophy about grocery shopping is to stay around the parameter of the store. Basically I like to have most of my items to be fresh foods, meats, dairy, and fresh breads. I buy my spices in bulk as well, it’s cheaper and you can have the amount you really need instead of an entire bottle. When I do go down the aisles I make sure to look at the labels and have low numbers across the board.

When shopping for my groceries I like to have a meal plan laid out for me with all the ingredients I’m going to need. If I don’t do this I end up having impulse buying, and not sticking to the right meals. Sometimes I don’t always put a day on each meal, but I like to know what I’m going to be cooking in the next week or more. This way, when that meal comes around I can stay on track and avoid going to the store when I’m hungry. The other benefit of doing this is that is budget conscious. Staying on track with a grocery list helps your wallet and your pant size.

Today I made sure to get extra exercise in because we were planning to have spaghetti for dinner. The last time we had said meal, I went over on my calories and felt very sluggish for it. So, I made sure to get my morning work out on the Wii and since we magically had no rain this afternoon I was able to take Julia and me for a walk around town. Of course, twenty minutes in it started sprinkling. Over all I was able to burn a couple hundred calories for the day.
